Besides the using the following information, you can also visit www.dogdetective.com , a comprehensive non-profit web site devoted totally to helping people who have lost and found pets.  Click to go directly to their LOST or FOUND tips.

What should you do if you have lost your pet?

Begin canvassing the neighborhoods nearby.  Print up fliers and leave them on mailboxes.  Go to community bulletin boards and place fliers there.  Contact local veterinary clinics in your area to see if anyone has found the pet. Call local animal shelters and humane societies and pet rescue groups in your area.

What should you do if you have found a pet?

The suggestions are very similar to those outlined above:  immediately canvass the neighborhood where the pet was found.  More likely than not, the pet lives nearby.  Make up fliers to distribute around the neighborhood.  Take fliers to local veterinary clinics, community bulletin boards, and animal shelters.  But probably the most important thing you can do for the pet is to have it checked for a microchip.  Take the pet to a vet or an animal shelter that has a device that can read the microchip.  If the pet has a microchip, that is one lucky pet who will soon be on his way back to his home.

FOUND/Dog in Moreland area

Karhma writes:  I was on my way home this evening, and I spotted a beautiful dog running down Hwy 54 toward Luthersville in Moreland.  He (I assume) was around house #1156 and 1158.  The dog is a medium dog weighing about 30 lbs.  He looks like a sheltie.  He had one brown eye and one that was partially blue.  He was wearing a new black collar with no visible tag.  We tried to catch him and even lure him with food, but he wouldn't let us get him.  If you know someone who is looking for this baby please pass this on.

If you think you have lost this dog and need more information from Karhma, please call our hotline at 770-830-2820.

Buddie2.JPGbuddie.JPG

BUDDY WAS FOUND LAST WEEK WANDERING IN OUR YARD. HE WAS IN BAD SHAPE. WE TOOK HIM TO FLAT CREEK ANIMAL HOSPITAL AND GOT HIM ALL PATCHED UP. BUDDY HAD CUTS AND APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN SEVERELY ABUSED!  WE DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG BUDDY HAD BEEN AWAY FROM HOME, HE DID HAVE A BLUE COLLAR ON. HE IS ABOUT TWO OR THREE YEARS OLD.  NO ONE HAS ASKED ABOUT HIM AT THE FAYETTE ANIMAL SHELTER OR AT ANY OF THE LOCAL VETERINARY CLINICS.  BUDDY IS AN ESCAPE ARTIST! HE CAN GO OVER A SIX FOOT FENCE LIKE IT ISN’T THERE. HE IS A VERY GOOD DOG THAT NEEDS SOME LOVING CARE TO BE A GREAT DOG.  WE HAD TO TAKE HIM TO THE FAYETTE ANIMAL SHELTER TO KEEP HIM SAFE. WE WILL NOT ALLOW THIS DOG TO BE PUT TO SLEEP, OR WANT TO SEE HIM LYING BESIDE THE ROAD RAN OVER BY A CAR.

PLEASE IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE OR CAN HELP BUDDY OUT IN HIS TIME OF NEED, PLEASE CALL THE FAYETTE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER. HIS TIME THERE IS LIMITED!

This alert was sent to us 2/8/08.  Here is what the owner has to say:

"...on Tuesday night, two of my three Siberian Huskies dug out of my fence and took off like they were racing for the Iditarod....

..This was after dark, so of course we could not locate them as we did not realize they were gone for about 2 hours we think. We recovered the female on Wed afternoon through God's hand. She was found at the Sharpsburg McCollum/Hwy 29 intersection. My husband happened to be driving home and was there just as she darted across 20 and ran into a Railroad CSX building right there. Thankfully she is home safe and sound. So I am asking for everyone's prayers and eyes on the lookout. We live in Timberidge Subdivision off Hwy 29 across from the pretty white house that is called Tooth Acres, by Northside Baptist Church. The missing dog is a male red/white full grown, neutered lap dog....His name is Copper. He is not tagged, as he and his sister rough house and break tags off. The two were scheduled to get their microchips next week, and we pray we still get a chance to do it for him.
Supposedly he was spotted Wednesday on Tanglewood Road but the person who caught him released him rather than letting Animal Control pick him up. So please pray that we recover the dog as he is our heart, a gentle giant who needs to come home. Thanks for your prayers- this has been a "REALLY, REALLY HARD WEEK!!!!"
