Volunteers Are Our Lifeblood

(Fosters are a vital part of  our organization)

Everyone that is a part of the Georgia Heartland Humane Society is a volunteer. Our volunteers’ compassion, generosity, commitment, and enthusiasm are the foundations of the organization.  Volunteers donate their time and energy and provide the animals with an outpouring of love that many animals have not previously experienced.

Our volunteers open their hearts and homes to the abandoned, injured and abused animals that we have rescued. When we rescue a pet, it is placed with one of our volunteers as a "foster" and becomes a temporary part of their family. EVERY animal we rescue has to have a foster home waiting to take him or her.  We do not have a permanent facility in which to house the animals.  For that reason we are always needing new foster homes. While the animals are cared for in the foster homes they have an opportunity to recover from the cruelty they have experienced while developing proper house manners and learning to trust again. The foster parents are able to learn about the animals' individual personalities and habits, which enable GHHS volunteers to help you select the right animal to become a member of your family

Although we are always thrilled to add to our network of volunteers that foster our animals in their homes, we know that many people would be happy to donate time and energy to help, but are not in the position to foster our animals. YOU CAN STILL HELP! Other jobs volunteers do are:

  • set up for adoptions at Petsmart
  • screen applications
  • answer the hotline
  • transport dogs
  • train and mentor volunteers
  • answer e-mails
  • make signs
  • participate in fund-raisers
  • provide storage and maintain supplies
  • develop and maintain the website
  • pick up food and supplies and deliver to fosters
  • work with community groups to disseminate humane education

Volunteers are needed for a single activity, for regularly scheduled activities, and services that require a significant time commitment.  All levels of volunteering are valued. Please consider volunteering your time and love for our furry friends and call 770-830-2820 or you can e-mail us at gaheartland1@yahoo.com to let us know what you would like your level of commitment to be.
